Class Outline: Learning the Art of Basic Hypnosis
 
SUMMARY:   This is a beginner's class, designed for both those interested in hypnosis/self-hypnosis purely for their own personal growth, as well as prerequisite for the study of professional hypnotherapy,.  It is approved by several professional hypnosis associations.
 
Class 1: Introduction to Hypnosis
Hypnosis today and overview of course; demonstration and explanation.
 
Class 2: Hypnotic History and Suggestability
History of hypnosis; suggestabiliy tests; supervised practice
 
Class 3 & 4: The Six Basic Induction Types
Explanation of the induction types as building blocks for limitless techniques; discussion and demonstration of each type; rapid induction and other techniques incorporating more than one induction type; supervised practice.
 
Class 5: Deepening and Awakening
Deepening techniques; awakening guidelines; supervised practice.
 
Class 6: Testing During Hypnosis (convincers)
Why use convincers?  Five convincers demonstrated; supervised practice.
 
Class 7: Post-hypnotic Suggestions
Differances between theraputic and non-theraputic suggestions; components of belief, imagination, expectation & conviction; direct & indirect suggestion; suggestion structure; demonstration & supervised practice.
 
Class 8: Legal/Ethical Issues, Potential Dangers
Hypnosis and the law; ethics; potential dangers, favorable & unfavorable influences.
 
Class 9: Self-Hypnosis and Stress Management
Learning and teaching self-hypnosis; stress management; group hypnosis demonstration.
 
Class 10: BASIC Exam and/or Review of Basic Course
 
Outside work: When combined with in-class, the student must invest at least 50 hours or more for successful completion of the course.
 
Each class may last up to three hours, but usually less.  Students who miss classes may complete required hours through rental of a videotape of the missed class, or a manner approved by the instructor.
 
Required reading: The Art of Hypnosis: Mastering Basic Techniques by Roy Hunter (Kendall/Hunt Publishing).  Recommended additional books will be recommended by the Instructor.
